據法國網絡安全公司 Evina 較早前公布的消息所提，儘管這 25 個惡意應用程式提供不同的功能，如 wallpaper、電筒、遊戲等，但實際上當中都由同一組織開發，操作原理也類似，亦暗藏惡意程式代碼。只要用家開啟官方 Facebook app 的話，有關應用程式就會啟動網頁瀏覽器視窗，連至一個假冒 FB 登入頁面，藉此騙取用戶登入憑證，竊取用家個人資料。雖然 Evina 已在今年 5 月向 Google 報告以上情況，且 Google 也將有關 apps 於 Google Play 下架，之不過當中總下載量達逾 234 萬次，加上有部分的 apps 已上架超過 1 年，因此受影響用家數量或者難以估計。
