現時不少用家家中的智能電視是 Android TV 或 Google TV，不過坊間 Android TV 或 Google TV 都有一個通病，就是內置儲存容量極低，可能想多下載幾個 app 都安裝不能。有見及此，Android TV、Google TV 的 app 檔案格式將由現時的 APK 改為 Android App Bundle（AAB），並於下年 5 月生效。另外，此改動現已適用於 Android 智能手機。
將 Android TV App 檔案格式由 APK 改為 AAB 的話，其實有兩個好處，第一是 AAB 佔用儲存空間平均減少 20%，加上 AAB 可以被存檔，因此可減少了約 60% 的儲存佔用量。第二個好處是在 Google Play 內可以更簡便的方式更新，讓不同 Android 裝置運行 AAB 都更有效率。
Google 表示，一名軟件工程師只需 3 天左右的時間，就可將 APK 檔案格式改為 AAB，因此 AAB 將為 app 檔案格式的大勢所趨。另外，Google 也提醒開發者如不遵守更改 app 檔案格式的時間表，相關 app 或不能於 Android TV 或 Google TV 找到。
